Support for this season comes from Wealthsimple. Wealthsimple makes investing money easy and affordable, and uses smart technology to build a portfolio of low-fee index funds that are designed to meet your financial goals. Because you’re a listener of the podcast, Wealthsimple will waive their fee for the first $10,000 of investments. (And they operate in both Canada and the USA!)

Welcome back to another season of Budgets and Cents, a podcast co-hosted by Cait Flanders (formerly Blonde on a Budget) and Carrie Smith (Careful Cents). If this is your first time listening, welcome to the show! You can visit our episode guide to catch up on all the episodes you’ve missed.

In this week’s episode, we talk about all the different numbers that are part of your financial life. The most common numbers to know include your:

  • Monthly budget
  • Annual salary
  • Net worth
  • Investment fees
  • Retirement contributions
  • Tax bracket
  • Credit score
  • Debt balances

We discuss the importance of knowing your numbers, not conforming to arbitrary numbers you’re supposed to adhere to. We also talk about how knowing these numbers will help you create a life that makes you happy. If you want to accomplish certain financial goals, you must know your numbers. But remember to let them guide you to success, not drive you towards it.
