Welcome to the second season of Budgets and Cents, a podcast co-hosted by Cait Flanders (formerly Blonde on a Budget) and Carrie Smith (Careful Cents). If this is your first time listening, welcome! You can use our episode guide to catch up on what you’ve missed.
In our last episode, we gave you a glimpse of what our days look like now that we work for ourselves. In today’s episode, we talk about the one thing every freelancer needs: clients!
Unless you make all of your money by selling your own products and services, there’s a good chance you’ll rely on client work to make up a portion of your income, when you work for yourself. We talk about how we found our first clients, as well as how we get clients today.
We also talk about what we call ourselves, how we position our services, setup contracts, set expectations and create good communication strategies. (And since you know we don’t shy away from the big stuff, we also share examples of red flags and clients/projects we’ve turned down!) It’s taken years for us to learn how to run profitable freelance businesses. Hopefully there’s an idea or two that can help you with yours.
